The Starrett Bees are Buzzing with Activity!

Did you know Starrett-Lehigh recently installed a bee hive on the 10th Floor Terrace? These bees have been populating our rooftop community garden all season long!

The colony is progressing beautifully and the population is growing. We saw some good pollen stores and are hoping they’ll feel inspired by the expected nectar flow from Goldenrods to store some honey!

The pictures above can give you a peek of what’s going inside. The first picture shows the colorful pollen stores. The second one shows cells that the bees have built and freshly laid eggs – a beautiful sight! They look like tiny pieces of rice. The third shows capped worker brood and drone brood, the next generation!
